If a PC becomes undead through various means, such as Val power or Order of the still heart, how does he look? do they look just as in life? begin to decay? can they choose to be downright skeletal? I am considering this route but I am curious of what the characters fate for RPing will be.
Thanks

Well,

we give players a lot of freedom with the way they look, but you need to look undead .. well unless you find a way to cover that up...

For example, I know someone who played an undead, he has no eyes (they sunk in) the eye sockets have small green lights which glow with an eerie radiance, he also has gray skin and his gums are gone...

Outside of Canceri and among the masses expect to need some sort of disguise to function. However you choose to interpret the physical changes brought on by your "blessing" you look undead.

While cosomopolitan people/important NPCs may accept the undead version of you - most "ordinary" people will respond by treating you as any other "monster." This is probably especially true in Milandir based on their history of conflict with the Nerothians of Canceri. Don'te expect to get a warm welcome in Enpyben (home of the Beltinian temple) either...

Concerning Milandir, one of the good things to come out of the Milandir LARP is that as long as an oath is given every so often, you are still treated as a citizen.

I don't recall all the specifics, but I'm sure someone can fill in the blanks.

Concerning undead...

Being undead assumes you are, well, dead. Therefore, without the proper conditions made (such as casting Gently Repose on your body or using a item that gives you its effect) you rot as a corpse would. Of course, the amount of decay is the choice of the player, as is its look.

Also, as for disguises... I find the coolest (and most cliche) way to hide being undead is to get into the robed costume from the mummy. Wear a mask, robes and cover up your hands.

Hopefully someone won't 'accidentally' step your robe and reveal everything...

The only problem I have with this is not all undead rot. Take vampires for example, they don't rot.

I think it's a valid question, since we are talking about magically animated corpses there is no reason they would follow normal physics and rot Smile

Rot can be from anything. Negative Energy eating away at the body to fuel its animation...the loss of spirit meaning a critical empowering component is missing and the body suffers accordingly...etc.

Vampires have 'fast healing' (does that mean they take damage, since healing spells hurt them, and 'inflict ' spells heal? Okay, facetiousness aside). Are they the only undead that do?

And you could chalk that up to circumstantial. Sunlight and running water (two prime 'living' icons) afflict the vampire with what one could consider "Advanced Rot"...so maybe the dramatic difference accounts for their non-rot other times. As in, Vampires DO suffer 'rot', but only under certain circumstances, and when they do, it hits them hard.
