Neat to see that nobody has TRULY gone for maximizing more than one skill (20+).

Well during character gen, 4 is the max, and you get 15 max during skill advancement, so 19 is the true "max" unless a path advances something nicely by chance. I didn't add in path advanced skill ranks to mine, so I might get persuasion or knowledge to 20, unsure. My goal is to focus on a combat (unbalanced), a social (persuasion), and lore (knowledge). This gives me a role in all aspects of the game. It also supports the adventuring archaeologist theme I have going. Besides, I don't think even in Tier 5 the game will require more than 15-18 ranks in something to be good at it.

For those trying to be good at things OUTSIDE their archetypes, they are pretty limited . . ..

IF they can get +3 during character creation, they can only count on +10 (unless Expert) during character advancement without a "lucky" Path bump.

That means that +15 is going to be pretty tough to reach for skills that some might want to think of as one of their primary focuses.

That seems consistent with the Expert's role, so that's good to know. Divine, Arcane, and Martial characters have a pretty broad range of skills to advance as well in that Divine can raise Social, Arcane can raise Lore and Martial can raise Physical skills. However, for Divine/Arcane it takes 2 advancements to do so, which again seems fitting.

I would guess that a +15 is still pretty good as on average, that will let you reach TN 30 for those skills (2d10 + 1d8 + 15 = 11 + 4.5 + 15 = 30.5). Not sure how many skills require hitting much above that on average.

@John: You have to remember that only certain races can hit that 4 max on character creation. And most players are going to have 2 paths that effect their combat skill.

Max is 24 for a Melee, 21 for and Arcane. I'm not sure about Ranged or Divine.

That's why I was saying norm is going to be 21.

Looking at the builds presented above, I too think that 21 is the 'max' you're likely to see with your average character, just like 28-30 is the 'average' defence for those same characters.

I'm not sure how this compares to the notes that the PCI crew have, but I'm thinking it is reasonable.

I was mainly talking non-combat skills. Combat skills are going to be rated differently because your TN varies by the creatures you're fighting. I hope Tier V things can be hit with the numbers most people are expecting to have in that Tier.
