Editted with references for most. I know I missed a few, but I can't remember the references for them (the Semar gate especially as I can't remember the adventure name) _________________ Cody Bergman

Is the above list all of the portals?
or is it alist of only the "known" portals, i.e. these are common knowledge amoung the devotees of Anshar?
As one devoted to the Weeping Goddess, I view that part of my mission in life would be to find ALL the gates that SHE had meant for man to know.
BTW. I caught a reference to a limitation to the amount of BlastPowder one can carry through the Portals. Is this common knowledge amoung the val'Innares? If so, what is the exact limit? Does it vary from gate to gate? Does this limit apply to an individual only or to an entire party as they pass through a gate together? _________________ Will Mullen

This is a list of the KNOWN portals, ones which have been referenced in adventures and books. From what I can infer from trips into the Blessed Lands, each of the Citadels MIGHT have a Gate in it (the Citadel of Illiir and Anshar did, but from what I understand the Citadel of Yarris did not). There are also likely portals throughout the areas inhabited by the Khitani, but they haven't shown up, and humanity used to live in Dar Zhan Vor as well, so there are probably a couple there too.
As to the Blast Powder restiction, I believe the limit was 40 shots/person. _________________ Cody Bergman

In the old system, the limit was 20 shots per person. Any more, and they all went boom. I don't recall seeing any reference to the limit in the current system. But I fully expect that it's still in place.
Also, it seemed to me that it was reasonably common knowledge. (At least it was definately common among adventurers; specifically, those who might actually be carrying blast powder.) I doubt that most commoners know about that, though.
Just for reference for newer players, portals are not... efficient enough to be used to transport armies. Although they appear (conceptually) like a stargate, they do not function quite the same. Sending large numbers of people through is not an easy or quick task. I don't exactly recall what the limits were, but a handful of people and/or horses. But you could not be mounted, I think, due to the height of the opening. (Again, this is all from memory.)

So, If I am carry 15 shots and I lead a horse with
15 shots in its saddle bags through the portal, we both should be safe?

Since most adventures will consist of 6-10 party members, this may not pose a problem. I am looking at the Portals as a quick way of getting wounded home.
It is the most likely scenario that a patrol will go out overland, because one could not be certain that the gates in iffy areas were no under observation from bad gus with an ambush set up for unwary gate travelers. Safe passage BACK to a gate under supervision of our guys would be a different matter ... that is assumming that there is a gate anywhere near he trouble spot we were sent to in vestigate. _________________ Will Mullen

Well, I don't consider myself an expert on the setting. But it seems to me that most of the gates are within cities. And there are very few, indeed that are out in the wilderness (what I assume you mean by, "iffy areas.")
If you think about it this way it makes sense... the gates have been around for as long as anyone can remember. Most, if not all of the gates were *probably* on Onara before the arrival of mankind. So, as the 1st Imperium of man begins to discover more and more of Anshar's gifts laying around, they naturally want to protect them. And a military installation would likely spring up in the area. Eventually, it forms a city, since trade would be easier and because military bodies need food, blacksmiths, women, etc. So most of the gates are deep within a city that's existed for a long time. Only the gates which were most recently discovered (like the one behind the former godswall) would be unprotected. In fact, there is a legion whose primary mision is to guard the gates. (I think it's Anguis Reptatus, but I could be wrong.)
I know that I often have mental images of gates that are influenced by Stargate, where the gates are off in the wilderness, somewhere and the stargate team needs to walk a little ways to get to civilization. But I believe that on Onara, its quite different most of the time. And I have to fight off that mental image, occasionally.

That should work ... however many modules will try to discourage you from taking horses through Portals. If the portal is in a Cathedral in Grand Coryani, the clerisy there will not be happy about horses tromping past the nave.
Its probably better to make sure there is a party member willing to help carry some of your Blastpowder _________________ ~Eisener val'Holryn. Holy Champion of Nier and haunted veteran of the crusade

I think I almost played a module with my old Yhing hir character where we spent better than 30 minutes arguing about whether or not I was going to take a horse with me . . ..
The good news is that everyone was smiling. I think that means nobody was too angry about the hit in module plot time. _________________ Valeriano Innocenzo Camillo de Larissa la Galletti
