So I'm not sure how much it would take to get this done, but I was thinking an event calendar would be cool for the site/forums. I guess the big thing would be getting someone write it up. And I apologize in advance because I personally can't do it.
Something that Harvesters or Admins (maybe even the general public) could write times, dates, locations, details, seats, etc. And it would have a search feature where one could filter out events more than X number of miles away.
An additional effect is that any event deemed large enough by the PCI staff would show up even after the filter. Events like Origins and GenCon and DragonCon. Maybe ones like MegaCon because a staff memeber will be there (not sure how big a con MegaCon is). _________________ -Devin Redd, Detroit Harvester

First CON I am going to set up for our area: (this is an article about them last year) ... http://hamptonroads.com/2011/11/nekocon-gathering-anime-aficionados (this appears to be MOSTLY about Anime but they had Pathfinder Tables last year and a panel discussion of it... so I will try to have one or two Arcanis Tables this year ... Mid November Hampton Roads Colloseum so we should be able to plan it easily ) I have already talked to the Organizers and they are MORE than happy to let us in. _________________ Musa Kivuli Val'Dellenov Tier 1.2 Arcane (Psionic) Former Altherian Marksman |

Currently trying to get in touch with the only convention anywhere near me as well (it is in New Orleans now, it used to be here in Lafayette). They are very similar, Anime based con with some gaming mixed in for over all geek cred. . I expect there to be an Arcanis game run there as they have always been pretty open to anything. |

Google Calendar widget was a backup idea, although it would not sort by region or size of event.
If PCI decides to implement this idea, I'm sure Henry will post an announcement to let us know. _________________ ~Kitty Curtis~

So Google calendar. With the raise of the Android phones and the ability to sync events to your calendar, and other calendars to your calender this seems perfect. You can also sync/access somehow, your Google Calendar to your iPhone (not sure about Black Berry or Windows Phone).
Grant limited access to who can alter the site's calendar or the groups calendar and you are in business. Also a Harvester or game group can send you a request to share calendars.
Some of the kinks would have to be worked out of course. The OhioDragonSlayers have tables of everything under the sun, nothing wrong with those systems, but we wouldn't want all of those showing up on the sites calendar. There may be a way filter out non-PCI events. Haven't delved that deep into it yet.
On a side note Google Groups seems to be a far better alternative to the Yahoo Groups. And a lot of us are already using Google Docs. Iowa has an Arcanis Group, is that you James or the Elliotts?
And of course PCI can post events such as Origins and GenCon. Or Tacticon where one can see the lovely Kitty. Or a Miami Con where one can play with Pedro and etc.
(Google may have to pay me for this pitch.) _________________ -Devin Redd, Detroit Harvester

Read the Google EULA. Google claims the right to use anything you post to their servers for ever after you post that information there.
While pretty much everybody claims the right to use what you post to their servers, MOST organizations, including both Yahoo and Facebook, agree that their right to do so ends when you delete the copy you provided.
EULAs matter to me, so I don't use Google to store ANYTHING I care about. _________________ Valeriano Innocenzo Camillo de Larissa la Galletti

@Jeff: Well I didn't plan on posting anything too interesting on a google group. Mostly event times and general discussion. _________________ -Devin Redd, Detroit Harvester

I as a rule use google groups /google products, I like it a whole lot more than yahoo groups with its integration to calendar and good file sharing/versioning systems.
however I dont use much of that for the Arcanis group, it could be replaced with an old mail email list and noone would really notice. for scheduling larger games and convention slots we use warhorn.
