Tultipetans (Oracular Larissans), coming to Savona, a city filled with three Legions and all manner of worshippers of Larissa (mostly famous for the Sensate variety)....
Calsestus, a long-time Larissan Sensate and very firmly aligned with the Pleasure-aspects of the Larissans...
Of the three Larissan legions, one is "Sweet Sorrow" which suggests a less sensual aspect, and "Singers of Sweet Savona", which represents a more hedonist version and oh, by the way, had as its commander the brother of the Emperor and, as some have whispered, the actual rightful Emperor.
All three legions (Sweet Sorrow, Singers, Ordained Prophet) have been named Traitors to the Empire and collectively sentenced to death. However, that doesn't mean that minds may be changed, and further, that the legions themselves may find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.
James, I believe, mentioned there would be 'city fighting', so it's going to be a nasty, nasty conflict. I can see a three-way battle (Savonan Sensate vs. Rebel, Savonan Sensate vs. Savonan Oracular, Savonan Oracular vs. Loyalist/Imperial). Of course, toss in any Ymandrake activity that we KNOW will be taking place...and the possibility of the Savonan legions taking on all comers between their own potential bickering...and the Ordained Prophet (hmmm...Morushun is a Beltinian...) being undecided...
So here's the real question!
If you're a member of one of those Legions, and you have the Pin of the Centurion or Plume of the Legionnaire for those legions...can you try to sell it or give it away BEFORE, in anticipation of maybe betraying your legion, to avoid the 20d6 Blue Bolt from Heaven? Or would the mere act of trying to avoid possible consequence for potential betrayal trigger the Divine Wooden Spoon?
I suspect we might see a few Holy Pillars of Naughty Boy/Girl erupt across the room.
My PC doesn't have one of the plumes/pins (he would want to be awarded it, rather than purchase, even if that represents a tacit award). But he is more or less an Oracular Savonan Legionnaire, married to a more or less Sensate priestess...
REALLY looking forward to this event!

Giving away or detroying the item can certainly occur, however, in those cases you should note on the certificate that you have done as much.
In short, while that may lessen the impact, you cannot assume that these items are not more effectively at delivering their penalty than that.

Personally I would view the "purchase" of a plume or pin to simply be a game mechanic rather than in character action. It is impossible to provide recognition by each legion for appropriate awards. There are 50+ legions currently. Maybe a BI could do it, and if you want to purchase and tag it with "awarded for actions performed at XX BI" or whatnot, that would make sense.
With a sweep of his hat,
