Hello,

I posted about this about a year ago. But that was for the Quickstart rules and I've updated the application, since. (Also I've had a recent suggestion that I post it.) So I've created a browser-based application to assist judges with managing the combats of CSE. I've tested it in IE8. But it should run in any browser that supports IE technologies, such as Netscape or Firefox.

Below is a link to my Google Documents folder that hosts the .zip file. Simply unzip the file and double-click on the .XBAP and it should run. No installation required. (If you're running Windows XP or older, you may need to install the .NET framework 3.0.) If anyone has any trouble, they can send me a private message. I also welcome any feedback. I find that this simplifies the process of tracking clocks for multiple NPCs. Oh... I have not tested this out on a Mac. If any Mac users decide to give this a try, please let me know what kind of results you have.

Thanks, and here's the link:

EDIT: The old link to Google Docs was not allowing users to download. So I moved the .zip file to 4shared. I tested out the download, this time. This should work.
http://www.4shared.com/file/NZ_6sUiB/CSE_Clock_Manager_136.html

EDIT (2013-05-07): I've received a complaint about 4shared. It seems that they have become more misleading with their site. So I've put a copy of this file on Google Drive. (Click the link, go to the "File" menu and select "Download".) Hopefully this will work out for anyone who wants the application.

Scott

I double checked it. Doesn't work for me either.

I've used this program in the modules I've ran and it makes things MUCH easier to manage with multiple enemies and keeps the clock and ticks hidden from players....

I'm sure Scott will correc tthe link soon. I highly recomend this.

Apologies. Google Docs has never given me that kind of problem before. Even I can't download the file. And I can't seem to get it working. So I uploaded it to a free file sharing site called 4Shared.com. This time I verified that the link works and I was able to download the .zip file. (You'll have to wait about 20 seconds or so after clicking on the download link before they start the download. That's how they get people to sign up for the pay service. But 20 seconds is not a big amount of time. It only seems that way when we're on a computer. Wink )

I updated the link in the original post.

If this worked as an App I'd be all over it Smile It's still awesome looking, but I don't usually have my laptop with me at games these days.

I'll contact SouthernSkies. Thanks.

As for the 'App'... I thought about trying to make it into an app. But there's a fairly significant cost involved in developing apps for mobile devices. And I'm pretty sure that the technology that I used (Windows Presentation Foundation) would be incompatable.

That said, if there is someone out there who is already a registered App developer who wants to collaborate on this, I'd be willing to share the source code. I'm not out to make a buck. I just wanted something that I could use to help the combat proces along when I judge at home.

Sounds good. I will download it anyways for my laptop and recommend it to my friend who runs some Arcanis games.

Trying this on a Mac, using Firefox. Success - Nil. That said, it may be because I have no clue to load the .xbap filetype into the browser. I am fairly fail when it comes to this sort of computer functionality. If you could provide a walkthrough of how it's supposed to be done, I can confirm whether or not it works on a Mac. Smile

Hmmm. Well, the last time I really used a mac was almost 20 years ago. So I'm not sure that I'll be able to help much. But what I can tell you is that within Windows, files with the .XBAP extension are, by default, associated with the WPF Host application.

Okay, so I spent about 15 minutes or so doing research on whether or not the WPF Host can run on a Mac. And the overwhelming response is that it cannot. I would have needed to develop this in Silverlight in order to get cross-platform operability.

Apologies, Mac users. But I'm a Windows developer. (Really, my focus is on SQL Server and Business Intelligence.) My goal for this application was partly to have a tool to help me out and partly to teach myself WPF. Operation on a Mac was not really part of my plan. But I'm still toying with the idea of developing a Mobile App version of the software. (Don't hold your breath, though. I still own an old "dumb" phone. So I'd likely need to collaborate with someone who has done smart-phone App development before. But it's not out of the question.)

Finally got this to work on Firefox (PC). It apparently requires Microsoft .NET framework. A plugin exists, but only in .NET framework 3.5, not 4. So download and install 3.5, and it should put the plugin in Firefox. Otherwise use IE to make it work.

I don't know if that works for a Mac or not.

After your recommendation to get this I'm working on getting it to run on my laptop right now. Apparently IE 9 really hates this thing. It took a few tries but I got it working. I ended up having to go into internet options->security->internet zone then hit the customize button and enabling xaml browser applications, prompt left me with empty bubbles. As well as add the internal site to my trusted sites list, otherwise it still wouldn't run. Figured I would save the next person some trouble.

You know, when I upgraded to IE9, I got empty bubbles the first time I ran this as well. "Oh no!" I thought. I figured I'd have to develop a new version. But when I closed the browser and tried it again, it worked just fine. I never saw empty bubbles, again.

Try reloading with a new browser window. Let me know if you're still getting empty bubbles.
