In the OGL version of the games Males could not become Priests or Rangers of Saluwe', and many became Druids of Saluwe' instead. This was considered something of a heresy, with much conflict around it.

My question, in the new rules what is the option available for Male Saluweans? Can they take Divine but some other background than Templar or Initiate (ie: Divine Woodsman) to represent this? Are they restricted to Shamanism (which means that they make a deal with a NON Saluwean spirit)? Are they SOL in terms of magical casting beyond Psionics?

Hello Cody,

The male Saluwean (or do you mean val'Dellenov) prohibition from being part of the clerisy is a story restriction, not a rules one - therefore males Saluwean priests are still a no-no.

They whole druidic order thing was an artifact of trying to make Arcanis' round peg fit in D&D's square hole, but, having said that, the Druidic Order still exists in canon, but they are very different from the all-female clerisy of Saluwe that is commonplace.

Best,

So having a Male Initiate of Saluwe, or Templar of Saluwe' would still be... Frowned upon. A good way to have the Druidic Order of Male Saluweans would be Divine/Woodsman.

My understanding - which could be wrong - is that its only the Initiate background and Anointed Priest path should be taboo. There was no restriction on strapping young men from joining the Holy Champions of Saluwe in the last campaign (Verdant Champions?). So I assume a male Templar would be perfectly acceptable.

From a power/mechanical standpoint there isn't THAT big a difference but from a story standpoint there is a fairly wide divide between the leaders of a temple and the people who pledge to defend it.
