|
|
Hello everyone,
We've had some setbacks with the Arcanis map which have now been, hopefully, resolved.
Our original cartographer had to withdraw from the project, but Ennie Award winning cartographer Sean MacDonald has stepped in and is working diligently to get the map done in time for Origins (crosses fingers)!
So here's my question: How big (or small) of a map would you want?
Do you care if its sold folded or would you prefer it rolled, even if there is an added expense of a mailing tube?
Sound off while you can and let us know how best to present this map to you.

I would prefer a rolled map in a tube myself. Folded maps tend to split after a while. I'd love to have the option for a high quality map to either laminate or hang on a wall during play, as well as a smaller one for table references. A lot to ask I know, but if there's anyway to have some choices in format that would be great.

A tube-encased map could easily be a larger map. Larger maps are better for those of us trying to advertise and draw in new players. The difficulty of traveling with one of these SHOULD BE similar to traveling with a second mat.
A folding map is far easier to transport, and more convenient for those of us traveling to and from gaming sessions. I still have my original Codex map, and it hasn't split, yet . . .. I don't bring it out and show it off unless there's an in-game reason to, however.
Yeah, my opinion is split.
A bigger map has a MUCH higher cool factor.
A big, rolled map in a tube has a slight advantage in my mind, I think. HARD choice to make! _________________ Valeriano Innocenzo Camillo de Larissa la Galletti

Personally I'd like a largish (2-3 feet in either direction) map that would be rolled. I've had too many gaming maps that fell apart due to repeated folding and unfolding.
I'll voice an opinion that hasn't been expressed here as well. I want either a PDF or JPG of the map. I keep all possible gaming materials on my laptop and tablet for faster reference as well as on my home desktop so I don't have to get the books when working on something. I also like to zoom in and out a lot with my digital maps to get perspective, ie high res would be better than smaller size IMO. Digital maps also don't wear out and save wear and tear on the nice paper/cloth ones.
All of that said I'm really excited to see the new map and look forward to it no matter the format. _________________ Brian Trahan |

I second a PDF version.

A .pdf version would be swanky, and I would personally prefer to get it in something like the same system we have with the Codex (pre-orders get the .pdf AND the physical version). I would like a rolled version for the poster, and as for material pricing tells me I want it as a typical poster, but I REALLY like the idea of having one side of it the map, and the other side a Battle Matt. I think that would be really swanky!
I would also like to have the map be about 1 square metre (or so) as it is a good size for really detailed scanning while also being an easily transported size. I understand if this is not the ideal solution, but it would be my preference. _________________ Cody Bergman

If it were cleanable battle mat as well that would be seriously sweet. I just think that would price it way too high and limit the market though. Either way I'm getting one when they are made available, but things like that are worth a bit of extra money to me. _________________ Brian Trahan |

Gentlemen,
You guys are way off topic.
We're talking about the map. I never said anything about a battle map.
If you guys want to pay $100 or more for a reversible map made of vinyl with a battle map on one side and the poster sized map on another then start lining up the people and I'll see what I can do. But that product would costs THOUSANDS of dollars to produce. _________________ Henry Lopez

I would be happy with a poster paper map, (and poster size would be awesome)
I would prefer rolled rather than folded _________________ --Josh Elliott

If you'd like to see a preview of what the map look like so far, go to my blog (and while you're there, sign up to follow it so I don't have to keep cross posting - ).

Will the final map contain boarders and landmarks (cities, etc)? _________________ Cody Bergman

Cody,
The poster sized map will have borders and just the major capital cities.
In the Codex Arcanis, the map will be segmented and the section in question blown up and its there that you'll see all the various points of interest.

Works for me! It's the boarders I'm most interested in, anyway _________________ Cody Bergman
