|

Hello everyone,
I have just uploaded (and tested!) four adventures to the Dark Providence website. These would be adventures from Year 3-04 through 3-07.
Thanks to Heather and Ken Waltz for writing two of these world spanning adventures and to Clint Blome, who not only wrote the final two, but also edited all of the adventures being offered today!
On a personal note, I'd like to thank those of you that have continued on with Witch Hunter and the Dark Providence Campaign. I know that we've neglected it, which is something unintentional, but there are only so many hours in a day.
However, we do have some irons in the fire to revitalize the game and campaign as well as a very dedicated person who has agreed to take over the reigns of the campaign when we launch our new vision for Witch Hunter.
So here's my plea to you - tell us what you like, don't like and/or would like to see changed or implemented in the new Campaign or possibly rule set.
Besides the Defense Dice Pool - we know, we know that was a bad idea!
I'm looking forward to hearing your input!

What we didn't like?
The Sin / Virtues were dodgy to play with. Very cumbersome and ill used. Not too much instruction on how to use and how often...
I did make a house rule that the players in my gaming club (R.D.G.C.) liked...
To be able to use the Sin Effects, you take the same amount of dice as your True Faith, and you had to roll over your Damnation score.
If you did, you did NOT get another Damnation point and the effect went off.
If you did NOT roll over your Damnation, you would get another Damnation point and the Sin Effect would still work.
This lead to alot of good roleplaying for the players to try to work off their Damnation scores...
This really worked well for us. _________________ "I am not yet ready for Hell!" |

I'm glad that this is getting revitalized. It was Witch Hunter at Origins about 3 years ago that actually brought me back into contact with PCI. It wasn't until the GenCon that year that I played any Arcanis, but I played 2-3 Witch Hunter games at Origins. I really enjoy my Taoist a lot!

I'm very happy hear that WH is getting a facelift of some sort. It seems like it's been dying, lately.
I like the d10 system. It's simple, clean and allows the game to focus on anything other than rules. It makes teaching new players very simple. What I don't like about the rules are the several places where the rules don't work together. (For example, the Ambush Attack talent states that you halve your opponent's Agility for the purpose of resolviong the attack. That doesn't mesh will with the defense pool. The mechanics just don't work that way.) I think that if those scenarios got cleaned up, the rules would roll very smoothly.
I like the fact that the Dark Providence campaign have those little adventure codes at the bottom of the adventure journals. I dislike that there hasn't been any kind of meta-plot. this lack of continuity means that those adventure codes seem to rarely get used after you play an adventure.
This is both a like and a dislike... I have yet to play a WH game where a tactical battle map was used. The tactitian in me dislike this. Additionally, there are a lot of talents and various other rules that become worthless without a battle map. Then again, I do enjoy the old school combats that take less time and allow us to get back to the story more quickly.
On a related note... Although WH does not do this, if the rules are being revised, then please do not write in any expectation of a square battle map. If any expectation of a battle map is implied, keep it generic so that those of us that prefer hexes can use them without issue.
Thanks again for all your efforts!
