A continuity error, as far as I can tell:
It was explained in A1-HP1-2 how Sarishan Steel is made, and that it involves the blood of a val'Mehan to give it its power (with Tempered Sarishan Steel requiring a live infernal to give it its more awesome power).
My question is this: How did the Hainese do it?
We know (from Legacy of Damnation) that the Sleeping Emperor gave the Khitani instructions how to make it in preparation for the Time of Terror. This involved every consecrated priest of Sarish in Khitan to give their blood to the forging of weapons. This makes normal Sarishan Steel.
We know from "Shadows of a Forsaken Past" that the val'Hamen met up with the Khitani forces in the North, and passed along the knowledge of how to make Sarishan Steel into Tempered Sarishan Steel. This knowledge was then lost when the Gods wall went up, separating the people who knew from the rest of the world.
Now, according to Legacy of Damnation, it makes sense on how the Hainese can make TSS (as they do worship Sarish along with MOST of the Pantheon). However, by the most recent information val'Mehan SPECIFICALLY are required. Even assuming that any Val or Ul of Sarish (val'Mehan, val'Bauciz, val'Hamen, val'Vasik, ul'Tai, etc) can have his blood used, there is still a discrepency on how the Hainese were able to do it. _________________ Cody Bergman

Hello,
At first I didn't reply as you didn't actually ask a question, but made an statement.
However, since Pete stepped in and categorized your statement as a question, I'll answer it.
First off, no- there is not a continuity error. Just because someone is unaware of all the necessary information and is working with incomplete data should not lead to a conclusion that there is an error.
Secondly, I assume that when you stated that, "However, by the most recent information val'Mehan SPECIFICALLY are required" you are referring to HP-2. As the writer of HP-2, (and having just ran it this weekend), I did not state that the ONLY way to make Sarishan Steel was to use val'Mehan blood. The context was a Smith relating how he saw Sarishan Steel made. At no time did he say that using val'Mehan blood was the ONLY way to make Sarishan Steel.
Thus, no - there is not an error in Continuity. _________________ Henry Lopez

Awesome sauce! It was my impression that a val'Mehan specifically was required, hence my confusion.

Another curious question regarding the making of Sarishian Steel weapons and/or armor. What quality are they? Or is that dependant on the crafter at the time (especially related to HP2)? _________________ Talendos the Shadow-Raven

It depends on what the creator wants. I'll check HP2 tonight when I'm not at the office, but they should default to Fine quality if memory serves. _________________ James Zwiers
