Now that I have the first mods under my belt, I've wondered about the effects of Wounds. And pretty much, the conclusion is that they're only a negative mechanic for characters.
Unless there are other ways to create Wounds than a natural 2d10 = 20 crit (and I'm betting the advanced rules have some, but more on that later), then it's nearly impossible for Wounds to have a noticeable, beneficial impact for players.
There's a rough 1% chance for a Wound to occur. That means that, barring pure absurd bucking of odds, PCs will never score more than one wound on any given opponent (and rare enough that they score any). And it seems quite doubtful that any given opponent will have just 1 Wound for a stat.
Since PCs and Bad Guys will surely part with one or the other vanquished, the lingering effects of Wounds on NPCs is meaningless. Not so meaningless for PCs...
Now, if I'm correct in speculating that there may well me more ways to inflict wounds in advanced rules...that just bedevils the PCs even more. If there aren't additional ways...then doesn't this just render the entire mechanic meaningless?
I know there are other ways Wounds impact (like with drowning), but couldn't they just be replaced by the PV of Might? Any way to make them more common will just make them more a problem than a benefit to PCs (which I concede may be the point).
So...what's the role of Wounds?
Thanks,
Michael |

I had totally forgotten where this topic was (I kept looking for it under rules discussions)
