So, I've recently searched the core rulebook for details about botching. And, as I'm sure most of you already realized, botches are only described in specific places. (i.e. a specific skill or talent may have some special wording about what would happen in the case of a botch.) Are there any official rules about botches, aside from those listed under the specific skills, etc.?

Personally, I've been somewhat downplaying the results of various rolls when someone botches, and a specific result is not specified. Take, for example, your initiative or defense pool rolls. Should there be a consequence for a botch for those rolls?

In a home game, I would just make a decision and go with it. But I suppose that my questions relate more to the Dark Providence campaign. In shared-world campaigns like that, I try to keep things balanced. I want the experience to be consistent, yet not at the expense of player enjoyment. So... Is there anything official about botches?

Thanks,
Scott

If you get no successes, and you roll any ones, you botch. It is an especially bad failure. In most cases what that means is entirely up to you as Game Master.
