I have a question about this module. I ran it last night, and the players ended up only getting about 110 exp. points. They did not achieve the highest autocrat rating, because of their own decisions.
They missed exp. because they did not identify the His brides and summarily let the brides walk on by them down the trail. My question is this:
Should have I awarded exp for the party "defeating" the brides? I did not award the exp for this. Please let me know if I made the correct decision here.

Hello Frank,
I just reviewed your Critical Events sheet and you made the correct decision.
If they neither engaged the Brides nor identified them, they shouldn't get any XP for it.
I wrote that encounter knowing that not everyone would engage the Brides (and many thus far have not), but they could have gotten a fair chunk of XP for at least identifying them.
If I understand your case correctly, they did neither. Thus not awarding them any XP was the correct choice.
Thanks for running the table and I hope everyone had a good time with it!

You are correct, they did not identify the brides, nor engage them. This brings up an interesting question about making knowledge checks (or perhaps any skill check). Can you only make a knowledge check if it is a trained skill for you? I ruled anyone can attempt the check, based on the grounds of myself not being "trained" in history, but I know some random and obscure history facts through basic instruction. Another example would be that I teach 8th grade science but an 8th grade student may have come across some random fact about 8th grade science that I, a "trained" teacher of the subject, do not know. Anyway, the TN25 check was too high for them to make (even with two tries...)

Hello Frank,
Yes Sir, Pg. 137 of the rulebook:
| Quote: | Untrained Skill Use
A Hero can attempt a to use a skill she has received
no training in, in which case the Hero may simply roll an
Action Skill Roll with the corresponding Attribute die, and
comparing it to the task’s Difficulty Rating. |
Your instincts were correct.
The one thing we tried to design into the system was a certain amount of "common sense" (as much as possible). Thus making an intuitive call on a ruling usually the correct one.
Heck, my #1 rule is that you're the GM and it's your table.
If you don't know the answer to a rules question, make a decision and keep the game moving. As long as it's logical and fair, I don't think many players will have an issue with it.
Good job!
